SPACETIME
Video Poetry and Immersive Audio-Visual Experience | Commissioned by We The Curious

Created for We The Curious’ 25th Birthday, Spacetime turns memories from the public into an audio-poetry experience, featuring a digital split-flap display and original score.
SPACETIME – The Creative Process
When I heard that We The Curious were looking for art to engage with the memories of past visitors, I was excited to design something that immortalised their recollections whilst honouring their fleeting nature. Inspired by old train departure boards, I decided to create a digital ‘split flap’ display of poems. This hoped to encourage the viewer to feel as though each poem could flicker away at any moment.
I used Adobe software to create a bespoke animated display, before sourcing memories from the public to pick out recurring threads, collective memories, and particularly poignant moments. These became 8 original poems, which I had the challenge of delicately crafting to fit the character limit of each line of the split flap board. I then narrated each poem, and produced an original score comprised of music and field recordings to make the film truly immersive.
